Quitting her Bottles...I'm a big girl!

Most books will tell you around age one you need to start weaning your child from the bottle. I hadn't started any weaning as of last week (she'll be 1 in a few days) but my husband and I had just talked about how in the world do we wean the bottle - I was hesitant ~ what if she gets dehydrated or not enough nutrients - hmmm. So we agreed we'll cut down the morning bottle to 6 oz (from 8oz) and then she can have breakfast as well with us since she already eats everything we do(baby steps). I kid-you-not the next morning we made the 6oz bottle she drank about half and then wanted nothing to do with it! Hmm weird, but she polished off some Cheerios and yogurt so we called it a morning. Then that afternoon I tried giving her a bottle...she screamed bloody murder like the bottle was going to hurt her, are you kidding L?!? I was so confused, but then she had a bowl of applesauce some crackers and took her nap. Then came bed time - same thing screaming to get the bottle away - I was stunned is she really done with bottle what's going on??

Next day the same thing happened in the morning. Then we went to Starbucks and I let her pretend to drink from the straw of my iced coffee (she's loved to pretend to do this for months - even goes ahh after taking her "sip") I'll be darn, she actually dank some up the straw. Whoa ~ she smiled and clapped. Okay ~ no way L! So I got some whole milk in a cup with a straw she stood and sipped her milk. I got some sippy cups with straws at Target and she was so happy. Drinks whole milk with her meals just like a big girl ~ no more bottles. And just like that she had made the transition for us.

My baby girl is growing up.
