Turn Your Lights Off if You're Not in the Halloween Spirit!

This past Saturday was L's 2nd Halloween, however the first one she was only a month old so this was the like the First Halloween for her.

She dressed up as a lady bug - so cute! We put the costume on after lunch and she had fun playing in it all day (she event wore it to a costume parade the night before at J's school carnival).

Anyways - she's been excited about her pumpkin buckets for weeks, in fact I had to buy two at Target because she loved walking with one in each hand. So on Halloween, we went out to dinner (in costume of course!) and came home to Trick or Treat. I thought maybe 5PM it would start but I checked outside no kids in site and no houses with lights. We waited and at 6PM we saw a couple houses with lights on, still no kids in sight but we decided to start anyways - I mean bedtime is 7PM.

L and I started at our house. She climbed the front steps, I lifted her up to ring our doorbell, then set her down to stand there with her bucket, and said Trick or Treat for her. J put a piece of candy in her bucket. She was excited and pulled the candy right back out. So off we went to the first house (L with a bucket in one hand and Nerds candy in the other). Being new to the neighborhood I introduced myself at each door, hoping to meet some friendly faces. The third house on our trip as L stood there with her bucket and I said "trick or treat" - the response from the woman at the door was "What a cute Lady Bug! What kind of candy would your mom like?" A little offended, but knowing that I was her neighbor I just politely replied "she'll like anything" and headed home. J then took her to two more houses while I passed out candy and he got the same response as my "candy for mom" experience. (L fell asleep after her 5th house - being a Ladybug is a lot of work).

Yes L may not be able to say Trick or Treat but she's in costume and enjoying the Halloween experience - why rain on that parade?! She loved getting candy in her bucket, and yes I let her have candy - why not Halloween is once a year. She had half a Reese's peanut butter cup and was LOADED with glee just taking a bite.

So today I say...maybe you've lost that Halloween Spirit if you decide that you want to start judging people and whether or not they should be trick or treating...and maybe its time to turn off the lights.
