Quitting her Bottles...I'm a big girl!

Most books will tell you around age one you need to start weaning your child from the bottle. I hadn't started any weaning as of last week (she'll be 1 in a few days) but my husband and I had just talked about how in the world do we wean the bottle - I was hesitant ~ what if she gets dehydrated or not enough nutrients - hmmm. So we agreed we'll cut down the morning bottle to 6 oz (from 8oz) and then she can have breakfast as well with us since she already eats everything we do(baby steps). I kid-you-not the next morning we made the 6oz bottle she drank about half and then wanted nothing to do with it! Hmm weird, but she polished off some Cheerios and yogurt so we called it a morning. Then that afternoon I tried giving her a bottle...she screamed bloody murder like the bottle was going to hurt her, are you kidding L?!? I was so confused, but then she had a bowl of applesauce some crackers and took her nap. Then came bed time - same thing screaming to get the bottle away - I was stunned is she really done with bottle what's going on??

Next day the same thing happened in the morning. Then we went to Starbucks and I let her pretend to drink from the straw of my iced coffee (she's loved to pretend to do this for months - even goes ahh after taking her "sip") I'll be darn, she actually dank some up the straw. Whoa ~ she smiled and clapped. Okay ~ no way L! So I got some whole milk in a cup with a straw she stood and sipped her milk. I got some sippy cups with straws at Target and she was so happy. Drinks whole milk with her meals just like a big girl ~ no more bottles. And just like that she had made the transition for us.

My baby girl is growing up.

Fixing Up a House...my New Skills

So all of our bathrooms needed to be re-caulked. We started this project a few weeks ago and then abandoned it for other priority projects. So today I decided I can totally handle finishing all the bathrooms while L takes a nap. I mean I did the patio door and J was very impressed :-)

So I get the caulk gun (latex glove is still over the end from 2 weeks ago when I used it) and a little edge tool, rip up one of J's t-shirts (his obsessive collection of t-shirts has started dwindling quickly now with the new house) and head up to L's bath. Did the tub & spout - hot D*mn that looks good! latex glove on the tip...I wonder how do you get the stupid thing to quit kicking out more caulk - oh well I've got the glove on.

Head downstairs to the shower in the basement - this was in need of serious help. So I Clorox wiped the cracks so they're clean and get busy caulking the shower. I got two corners done and thought to myself this is way easy and I'm good! I'll have to Twitter my new skill.

I keep going, filling in the huge cracks on the bottom that really needed it, then I had to stop and do the edging. I used so much caulk there was excess that needed to be wiped off, so i grabbed a spot on the t-shirt rag "shoot!" I grabbed a spot with caulk and got it all over my hands, then tried wiping off the edger and the shirt touches the shower wall...caulk on the shower. Wipe that & smear more elsewhere on the shower. I look down - crap! Caulk on my nice jeans (there was no time to change to dirty clothes L is napping remember?!) trying to scrub that out I look down WHOA! the caulk gun has oozed a whole pile on the shower floor - am I in a nightmare?!

I get out of the shower, and manage to get the latex glove on the tip. Stop, clean myself and the shower up. Wow guess I shouldn't twitter my new skill. Okay now the outside of the shower. LOTS of caulk again for the big cracks, edger got dirty again, tried to wipe it up and again it gets messy this time the t-shirt rag hits the toilet - are you kidding me?! Whatever, I'll just keep going, so I manage to edge everything, caulk is all over the floor.

Okay, latex glove back on the gun, wipe everything up - and head up. L's up from her nap & I'm leaving the caulking to J.
Whew!

L has her Specifics...

So now that L is almost one, she's starting to tell us what she wants and does NOT want...and its way to cute ~ she's totally my daughter!

Yesterday we're having dinner - chicken fingers. I have BBQ sauce on my plate for dipping. I cut off a few bits for L and put them on the tray. She turned her head away, not interested. Okay so I keep eating & she's whining to have my chicken fingers "what you have the same thing on your tray." This continues a few more times, so I dip her fingers in the sauce...yup gobbles them up ~ she just wanted her sauce :-)

So this morning we're having bagels, I tear some plain bagel up and put it on her try & then have mine with cream cheese. Same thing! No thanks & whines until hers has cream cheese too...ahh she's a sauce girl :-)

We're learning a new word this week baa baa (bottle) this could be tough if we ever decide to learn sheep noises too :-)

It's a Fixer-Upper

Well we got the house! Yes the garage door opener and keys were there - thanks to our realtor Joe going and getting them at 10pm the night before just to be safe!

This past weekend was a cleaning and painting marathon...I think I figured in 48 hours I painted 35 slept 7 and prepped for painting 6 - yikes. We had 7 people that logged about 24 hours each this past weekend - THANK YOU!! The house is almost completely painted except the basement our bathrooms, and my office. Not Bad! The house hadn't been lived in for almost a whole year so it needed a little TLC. My appliances arrived - yay! The carpet was installed on Tuesday - fabulous! and the roofers are pounding away above my head and should be done by Sunday - I feel a little like Ty Pennington :-) hmmm maybe that should be my next job ~ always adding something new to the resume!

Well I've gotta run and get the rental truck - movers cost about $200/hour so we're doing it with the help of friends and family!
